Reflections about a couple of blogs (Thing 4)

I found Vicki Davis’s post, Spies like us, very thought provoking.  I was more worried in 2007 about the potential viral nature of recordings.  I have no idea if my students have ever secretly recorded or taped me.  The anecdotes are horrifying, yet I am still not sure how much I should be worried as a teacher or worried for my students.  Even over the past two years, my students seem to have grown more prudent about technology and privacy.  I suppose I come down to the philosophy that we need to be careful and also that everything we teach, at all times, is trying to help students develop into productive, decent adults.

I loved Bob Sprankle’s “The time is now,” post, on his Bit by Bit blog.  The analogy of the rabbit ears is delightful.  Near the end of the post, when he quotes David Jakes ,about the difference between integrating and being integral, he really grabbed my attention.

I think Sprankle’s references to Bloom’s Taxonomy are especially relevant, and where teachers who have made technology integral can really advocate for the use of technology.  So many times I have worked with other teachers who are enthusiastic about how technology has helped their students to learn.  We all marvel at how by creating a photostory, or producing a movie, or commenting on a Voicethread has helped students to show their learning and so much more.  I want to start to discipline myself to name the so much more, more often.  What seems obvious to technology adopters, isn’t obvious to those on the side or shallow end of the digital pool.  So, I need to develop my vocabulary so that so much more takes shape as, among other things, creating, synthesizing, sequencing, empathizing, visualizing, analyzing…what else can we add?
